It seems to me
that the Lord has given us a weapon of mass power and destruction to overcome
the enemy.
That weapon is the precious
Blood
of
our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.
Back in Egypt when the Lord
instituted the first Passover, He commanded Moses to place the blood of
a lamb on the door post of every house and placed the Israelites in charge
of the blood of the lamb;
"And they shall
take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper
door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it."
"For I will pass through
the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land
of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will
execute judgment: I am the LORD."
"And the blood shall be
to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood,
I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you,
when I smite the land of Egypt."
Exodus 12:7,13,14

The Lord has allowed His
covenant people to use this weapon now for four thousand years.
Fifteen hundred years after
the first Passover was celebrated, the son of the Living god came into
the scene at the Jordan River to be baptized by His cousin John the Baptist
and under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit he declared. . .
"Behold the
Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world."
John 1:29 KJV
Just three years later as the
Lord was celebrating the Passover with His disciples that was originally
established in Egypt. . .
Jesus took bread,
and blessed it, and brake it, and gave it to the disciples, and said,
Take,
eat;
this
is my body.
And he took the cup, and
gave thanks, and gave it to them, saying,
Drink ye all of it;
for
this is my blood of the new testament,
which
is shed for many for the remission of sins.

With the arrival of the Messiah
and His sacrificial death on the cross, our God has made provisions through
the shed blood
of His Son for a New Covenant and a new breed of covenant people.
This Blood is the one that is
referred to in the book of Revelation 12:11, where it says that. . .
"they overcame him
by the Blood of
the Lamb.”
The devil does not
like this blood; in fact, he runs away from it as far as
he can.
The blood of a lamb that
was used back in Egypt on the door posts was not able to remove sin from
mankind; what it did do was to purify the flesh.
Hebrews 10:4 declares that
"it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take
away sins."
Although many people think
that the author of the book of Hebrews is the apostle Paul, it has never
been confirmed that he was the actual writer of the book.
We see the author of the book
of Hebrews writing about our Lord and Savior Jesus in Hebrews 2:9:
"who was made
a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with
glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every
man."
"For it became him,
for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons
unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.
For both he that sanctifieth
and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed
to call them brethren."
The precious blood of our Master.
. .
Why was the precious blood of
our beloved Lord and Savior shed?
Waiting for a revealing
answer, this is a question that many of my unsaved acquaintances have asked
me, almost with an inconceivable look on their faces.
Being the question of the
ages, sometimes it goes without a proper answer.
I think the time has come
to make it very clear once and for all why this precious blood was shed.
