The Ark

“Make an Ark of
acacia wood—a sacred chest 3¾ feet long, 2¼ feet wide, and
2¼ feet high. Overlay it inside and outside with pure gold, and
put a molding of gold all around it."
Exodus 25:10-22
The closer we get
to the Tribulation period, the closer we are to the imminent Rapture of
the Church, which, I strongly believe the Hebrew as well as the Christian
Scriptures teach. This next Great and Major event, will precede the Tribulation.
The
word for ark can also mean “chest” as in 2 Kings 12:9-10
or “coffin” as in Genesis 50:26. It is not the same word nor should
it be confused for Noah’s ark. We are talking about a complete different
ark.
The Ark that Moses had Bezalel
make was a chest made of acacia wood and covered with pure gold.
The Lord also said
to Moses, “Look, I have chosen Bezalel son of Uri, grandson of Hur, of
the tribe of Judah.
I have filled him with the
Spirit of God, giving him great wisdom, intelligence, and skill in all
kinds of crafts. He is able to create beautiful objects from gold, silver,
and bronze. He is skilled in cutting and setting gemstones and in carving
wood. Yes, he is a master at every craft!
“And I have appointed Oholiab
son of Ahisamach, of the tribe of Dan, to be his assistant. Moreover, I
have given special skill to all the naturally talented craftsmen so they
can make all the things I have instructed you to make:
the Tabernacle itself;
the Ark of the Covenant;
the Ark’s cover—the place
of atonement;
all the furnishings of the
Tabernacle;
the table and all its utensils;
the gold lampstand with
all its accessories;
the incense altar;
the altar of burnt offering
with all its utensils;
the washbasin and its pedestal;
the beautifully stitched,
holy garments for Aaron the priest, and. . .
the garments for his sons
to wear as they minister as priests;
the anointing oil;
and the special incense
for the Holy Place.
They must follow exactly
all the instructions I have given you.”
Exodus 31:1-11;
Exodus 37:1-9
The chest or the Ark of the
Covenant measured approximately 45 by 27 by 27 inches, 3¾ feet long,
2¼ feet wide, and 2¼ feet high or 114 by 69 by 69 centimeters.
It was covered inside and out with gold.
Poles were slid through its
two pairs of rings to make it portable. The Ark of the Covenant also served
as a container for the two tablets of the covenant given to Moses.
"When the Ark
is finished, place inside it the stone tablets inscribed with the terms
of the covenant, which I will give to you." Exodus 25:16
The tablets were also called
the “testimony.” That is why the ark was sometimes called the “ark of the
testimony.”
